Must-Have Products

Well, since I’m a hairstylist, I think I need to post about my must-have products. I’m going to go beyond that and share a few outside of the cosmetology world as well.

So this product is literally 1 of 3 total products I use in my hair. Seriously. This picture is actually a limited-edition design celebrating co-founder Oribe Canales, the legendary hairdresser who created Oribe. This cult favorite (quite literally), is EVERYTHING – it has the ingredients that mirror dry shampoo but also add texture and the slightest ever hold – which is SO in right now. Bigger, better, full-on glamorous hair that ANYONE can do at home. This invisible dry hair spray builds volume + texture in layers so it’s not too much or too little. Zeolite crystallines absorb oil at the roots, leaving you with just-styled hair for days (and nights). Confession … I only wash my hair once a week. Extensions are a girl’s best friend and so is this product if you’re “that girl!”

Now, I know above I stated that I only use 3 products in my hair – which the other two will come – I just don’t use them every day so I’ll keep you on your toes until the next round of fave products Number 2 comes from our fantastic esthetician (we should just give her a damn doctorate because she does more education than most dermatologists I’ve met and she listens). So, I am the girl who occasionally has a breakout. In high school – different story! Anyway, I always associated oily skin = with breakouts. STOP! That’s not right. You can tan and dry that shit out but you’re only worsening things. Here’s the deal South Dakota ladies, you NEED moisture. If you’re using the right products you will not be broken out with a good moisturizer. If you’re using crappy products you will. So, now that I’ve come out of the coma of tanning is good – NO IT’S NOT, I have recognized how to take care of my skin. Yes, it’s a part-time job but one that will reward you forever. I ALWAYS moisturize now, but when I get the occasional break out I use this PCA Acne Gel only on the treatment spots. This will OVERNIGHT Effectively clear existing and future acne blemishes with this 2% salicylic acid treatment with OmniSome delivery system. When I tell you it works, IT WORKS. My husband now asks me for that stuff in the brown bottle for my face the one time a year he needs it 🙄. The best part about this product is that it stabilizes salicylic acid to boost penetration into the skin unlike a topical that isn’t penetrating sufficiently. While we still want to stay moisturized, this product has ingredients to help reduce excess oil production and the appearance of unwanted discoloration.

The last and final product for the day is actually a cleaning product. Yes, a Clorox disinfecting wipe. Dude, they are amazing. I have this weird thing with the textures of cleaning supplies. Like, I can’t do the Clorox wipes in the cylinder containers because they aren’t fabric feeling. I can’t do the Norwex wipes because of their texture – however, I do have the girls at Blu use those on mirrors because they literally are the best! I just can’t touch them. I also have to use viva paper towels that have a more fabric feel vs. a paper towel feel. Weird, I know, but don’t roll your eyes until you’ve tried these. I have a bag under my sink, in my car, in my kids’ Bogg Bag, at each Blu location, and everywhere. My 4 year old knows what to go grab when I say go grab me the Clorox wipes. She says “Clorlox” but hey, it’s cute. These bad boys are a disinfecting wipe with NO bleach. They can kill all the viruses and illnesses which I could care less about because these kids are going to pick up what they will anywhere. I do LOVE them because they’re easy to use and they CLEAN stuff Well! You could walk into either Blu and 95% of my staff will know what they are and actually request them for cleaning! Yes, my tight ass husband also likes them and allows me to spend $6 or $7 on them!

The other products are always available at Blu but you can also get them online through their company. DO NOT buy salon products from a box store. That’s a whole blog in and of itself, but the contracts to fill in a box store are different criteria than a salon wholesaler that you have to have a license for, to include concentration of these products. So you’re buying more water at a box store.
